Will this be the only blog entry this month (gasp!)? It sure seems
like it. I'm leaving for Phuket tomorrow (work-related, but I'm staying
at the Hilton. Whopee-doo) and won't be back till Friday. And by the
time I accumulate enough stuff to talk about it'll be November already.
So, umm, I'll be gone till November (one time).
The royal (and lovely) couple of Michelle
and Alec came to visit last week. Was thinking of showing them the
bright lights of the city but unfortunately it was pouring so sightseeing
was called off. Brought them shopping instead. Right Michelle? We
were shopping, weren't we? Hmm? Shopping? You know? Yeah?
*Wink*?
Due to the dwindling number of visitors to this site, I figured I
could spice things up a little bit by putting up a webcam of myself
pole dancing. But until I get in touch with some business partners
in Thailand about possible franchise plans (what, you think I was
going to Phuket to cover an Epson projector launch?), you'll have
to make do with regular posts about the tunes that I'm currently rocking.
Plus mini reviews. And downloadable samples! That's right folks –
I'm starting an MP3 blog.
Alright then, let's do this:
De La Soul – Verbal Clap
You know it's true – De La hasn't made a good album since De
La Soul Is Dead. The Grind Date is okay, but it lacks
consistency. It's all over the place, different productions, different
styles. Basically I miss Prince Paul (more on him
when the next Handsome Boy Modelling School album
arrives). 'Verbal Clap' is, however, one of the best tunes from the
trio in a long time. Jay Dee's beat is pure head-nod,
throw-your-hands-up stuff; Posdnuos and Trugoy haven't sounded this
enthusiastic in a long time. "So some feel free in sayin' that
we don't hunger for beats / Not that we not hungry, just picky in
what we eat." Good choice guys.
Neko Case – The Tigers Have Spoken
Neko Case – is that her real name? I dunno. I haven't Googled
her yet. But yeah, this is what I like to call travel-music. Great
for train rides, bus journeys and air travel. Rolling clouds, passing
scenery. Nice.
The Arcade Fire – Rebellion (Lies)
Like Interpol. But better than anything on Antics.
I love the bassline. You haven't heard of The Arcade Fire yet? Well,
hear them now.
Foreign Exchange – Come Around
Contrary to the rave reviews on Pitchfork,
I don't think the album deserves the 8.6 that it got. But when a track
hits the spot, it hits the spot. 'Come Around' is the sort
of tune that you're not ashamed to see your Chingy-liking
friends bobbing their heads to. If they bob at all.
* - Technically this post should be dated October 31. I wrote it on
October 27 but I couldn't access my FTP server so I'm only posting
it now.
