I've been meaning to compile a tribute mixtape of sorts to commemorate the passing of Jay Dee aka J Dilla, one of the best hip-hop producers ever, but haven't gotten around it till now. As with a lot of other things that I haven't had time to attend to, like updating this blog and returning Jessica Alba's phone calls for example.

While digging through my Dilla records, I came across a lot of old hip-hop that I haven't listened to in a while. While I have loads of stuff from a whole lot of people all across the genre, the best music in my collection have consistently been produced by three artists – Madlib, Dilla and DJ Premier. Yeah I love Prince Paul and DJ Shadow too, but the former hasn't been cranking out a whole lot of good stuff since Psychoanalysis while the latter ... well, Shadow is in a category of his own. Although to be honest, I am absolutely not feeling his new tracks that have been circulating on the internets, purportedly from his new album due later this year.

So anyway, instead of a purely-Jay Dee mixtape I decided to compile a mix of some of the best Dilla, Madlib and Premo tracks. I'm calling it the 'Three Kings Mix'. Get it here! Consider it a present from me to you in conjunction with my birthday this weekend, June 24. Oh darn, did I just accidentally mention my birthday on my blog? Silly me, you know how I'm usually such a low-key person. I would never mention my birthday on my blog, which falls on June 24 by the way. I hate it when people mention their birthdays on their blogs. It's as if they're worried no one would wish them 'happy birthday' or something, you know? Sheesh. Which is why for my birthday which falls on June 24, I'd rather just keep it quiet and modest.
