City Of God. City Of God. City Of God.

City Of God.

What a brilliant film. So, so good. Imagine Godfather if it was made by Harmony Korine. Better than Mulholland Drive? Hmm ... tough call. But City Of God definitely ranks as one of the best films that I've ever seen. I've read about Brazilian child gangsters before but to see it re-enacted on the big screen with such realism absolutely shocked me and opened my eyes to the true notoriety of the matter. The most gut-wrenching scene was the part where Lil' Ze forces one of his new recruits to kill one of two cornered rival gang members, not before being shot in the feet by Lil' Ze himself. Very Tarantino-esque? Try imagining a 7-year old in the place of Mr Orange in Reservoir Dogs.

Like, wow.

Righty ho, been back in London for 3 days now. It's cold, London Underground sucks, my flat's falling apart (pigeons in the ceiling, bathroom tiles dropping like dominoes), jobs. Peachy keen.

On the bright side, new laptop + DVD drive = lots of DVDs to buy/rent! Bought a very lovely collection of Run Wrake animations at the Soho Bookstore on Brewer Street. He's the guy behind the videos for Howie B's 'Butt Meat' and 'Music For Babies', Future Sound of London's 'We Have Explosive', Spacer's 'Beamer' and that Stereo MCs track, can't remember the name now. See the skull picture on the right? That's from one of his animations called 'Jukebox'. I love this guy's work - crude colour shading, strong, thick lines, weird imagery. Highly recommended.

Rented Requiem For A Dream. Pretty cool film. Absolutely harrowing towards the end. The music drove me nuts. In a good way. Sorry, my film analysis is awful.

And in my frenzied return to Berwick Street I bought Death Cab for Cutie - The Photo Album and We Have The Facts ... (thank you Jo!), the Extra Yard compilation on Big Dada, The MajesticonsBeauty Party and the new Sea & Cake. All very lovely. All very nice. All in my iPod.

The new Sleaze Nation is giving away 3 out of 10 random posters with every issue. I'm really only after the KAWS and Banksy ones. Spent about half an hour looking through every copy in Tower Records. Eventually found them but they were in two different issues. So, umm, apologies to anyone who gets a copy of Sleaze Nation without any posters in it. Just grab them off another copy.

Bo selecta!

Have I told you yet that I have an iPod? No? Well, now you know. I HAVE AN IPOD! Goodbye minidiscs, you served me well. We did a lot together, but all good things must come to an end. Like my time in KL (sob!). I'm going back to London soon.

In all honesty I'm feeling mighty shite at the moment. So many decisions to make, so many things to think about. What's it gonna be? What's it gonna be? Blah blah blah ... fuck blogging. I need to talk.

OH GAWD. I'll be seeing my sister again.

Happy Valentine's Day!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Love is very precious for all man kind, is sweetest thing in world! Let us be happee!
