Those of you eagerly awaiting my list of top records of the year will have to wait a little longer (no later than 2007, I promise). I'm doing a last minute marathon listening session at the moment, doing my best to catch up with some of the music I failed/neglected/didn't have time to listen to this year. Yes, even if it means not having any sleep and food just to find out what Konono No. 1 and Art Brut really sound like.

I realise my recommendations have the power to change people's lives and initiate seismic changes in music buying trends, so I am not about to disregard my duty to all of you and do something trivial like going out tonight to celebrate New Years. No siree. There are more important things in this world than ushering in the new year with a loved one, full of hugs and kisses, holding hands under a firework-lit sky. So what if I'm the only single guy around without a date for New Years Eve? I have so much music to listen to. Surely that makes one truly happy.

Right?

Caribou - Medium Sized Working Dog (Steady Steady)
When not getting kicked in the face with Ferragamo heels for being ugly, I like to soothe the pain by playing me some Caribou, or the artist formerly known as Manitoba. The track appears on Caribou's Tour CD 2005, although my copy comes off the upcoming Marino DVD. Kicks off urgently but quietly with a galloping beat and a noodly guitar before crashing drums break the silence halfway through. If you're like me and prefer Start Breaking My Heart to The Milk Of Human Kindness, then you'd like this too.

It's Saturday and I'm going out tonight! Excitement! Decadence! Rejection! Mmm ... can't wait ...

Hello boys and girls! For today's show, let's take a break from the usual 'girls-hate-me' activities and do something different! Something fun, yeah! And educational! So let us all get on the Magic MopeBus® and go on a musical adventure!

Serena Maneesh – Don't Come Down Here
We've seen a fair number of revivals within the past couple of years, most notably 80's electro, garage rock and dance rock. What we need in '06 is a full-on shoegaze revival. Yes, we need a neo-shoegaze movement now! And my hopes are on Serena Maneesh to lead us all into a glorious future filled with cooing female vocals, ethereal melodies and loud, distorted guitars.

So what can you expect from this track? Umm ... they sound a little like this other band, but I can't quite Bloody remember their name now. You know what, I think they actually sound a Bloody lot like this other band. You might even think both of them are the same Bloody band. Which isn't saying that Serena Maneesh is a Bloody copycat act or anything. Even if they were, well, they sure are doing a Bloody good job of it. Imitation, flattery ... there's supposed to a be a nice phrase that goes with those two words. Can't Bloody remember that as well.

Although it's a known fact that none of you out there can match my knowledge of music, let alone surpass it, I'll be honest with you this time and admit that I don't know much about this band so that's all I can tell you for now. I mean, I can Google them and give you a full band history and discography. But that would be cheating, and being the under-appreciated Cancerian new age sensitive man that I am, I do not cheat. Or lie. Or break your heart.

Please call me.
