I do apologise if all I talk about is my job, but that's the only
thing that happens in my life nowadays. I had one of the most frantic
weeks this week, working late almost everyday and even locking the
office up after everyone on a couple of occasions. I could bring my
work home – I'm doing a review on PDAs anyway – but I
find that once I get home, have my dinner and take a nice hot shower,
all I wanna do is sleep. It's just better to get it over with at the
office, you know, while your ideas and opinions are in motion, rather
than going back home, settling down, and having to restart the train
of thought again. So anyway, whatever I need to do for the January
issue is finished (at least I hope so) but next week we'll have to
start on the February one instead. Aah ...
I'm basically home alone at the moment. My mum and brother are on
vacation in Japan and my dad's in China for golf (yes). My sister's
gonna be back from London next week, and I'm expecting some goodies
from her. Not that she bought me anything, but I had some Amazon UK
stuff sent to her address so I can save me some international postage
cost. Hoping to see my Chris
Cunningham and Spike
Jonze DVDs soon. Placed an order for City Of God but
it's being delayed, so I'm sceptical as to whether or not it'll be
sent to my sister in time for her to bring it back to Malaysia.
So yeah, the house is practically mine for a while. Great for throwing
parties/blasting music out loud/bringing some chicks back home (for
some coffee – what else could I possibly do?) but I ain't gettin'
down like that. I'd rather just have some quiet time to catch up on
some sleep and my back issues of Spin which I haven't read
since buying them in November. Been listening to the Egon
mix on KCRW which is a refreshing respite from a chronic deficiency
of good music. Might go out later tonight, but no plans as of yet.
I got myself a new Nokia 6600. Nice little gadget. Looped an instrumental
of Outkast's 'Hey Ya' and made it my ringtone, but no one calls me
so I don't get to show it off (insert sad smiley). Added some Futura
graffiti as my display background too. I am so cool.
Sigh ... I wonder what's new in Berwick Street ...

A good friend of mine is currently doing a course in Scotland as part
of his job training. In addition to the occasional chat on ICQ, he
also regularly sends me text messages detailing his adventures of
being in the UK for the first time ("Im freezing my ass off here!"
and "That Aussie dude scratched my new Outkast CD!", among others).
A couple of days back I got the most shocking message ever:
"Im at Aberdeen Exhibition Centre right now 2catch Radiohead live
in concert! Asian Dub Foundation didn't really perform or probably
i missed it as we simply came late. Lochness was excellent last weekend!"
I was like, "HOLY SHIT!" When he called me later that day, he was
telling me how he got the tickets from a friend who couldn't go at
the last minute, how he felt a bit bored at the concert and how he
only enjoyed 'Creep' (they actually played 'CREEP'!!!). He crossed
the line when he told me that he only managed to snap one miserable
picture with his digital camera cos his battery went flat. Friend
or not, I was ready to strangle him and leave him for dead in the
Scottish countryside. The lucky bastard isn't even a Radiohead fan
to begin with. What the fuck, you know? The closest I've come to seeing
Radiohead live is watching them perform on the Pyramid Stage at this
year's Glastonbury ... on TV. Even that was a delayed broadcast.
Meanwhile back in Malaysia, I'm suffering from a stiff neck which
is only aggravated by cold showers every morning before work (my solar
heater's broken). Woe is me, is there no compassion in this world?
