Goodies this time around include several tracks from Paris'
1992 album Sleeping With The Enemy which features one of
DJ Shadow's first appearances.
By the way, perhaps I should start a pseudo-blog here to spice things
up a little bit. Well, what should we start off with? Okay, umm,
let's talk about stuff that I bought today. I can't stop plugging
the new Jazzanova album. It's worth every penny, trust me.
Well worth getting even if it is only for the first track, 'L.O.V.E.
And You & I'. The whole song has probably got all your favourite
drum breaks rolled into one jazzy, soulful, nu-jazz tune. One gripe
though is that the album doesn't have that track, 'That Night' with
Vikter Duplaix on vocals. Never mind, I got a free Compost
sampler anyway.
Also, finally got around to purchasing Five Deez's Kool
Motor. I think Fat Jon would be the latest entry in my
list of all-time favourite hip-hop producers (which also includes
DJ Premier, Madlib, Jay Dee and Prince Paul).
J-Live's All Of The Above is good too. The production's
not as tight as The Best Part but J's flows more than makes
up for it.
And can you believe it, I actually bought Nappy Roots' Watermelon,
Chicken & Gritz. Forgive me, but Spin did give it an 8 (and
I trust Spin with my life). Well, obviously 'Aww Naw' is a great
tune, but I get kinda irritated with their whole 'country bwoy'
stance. Mind you, their style ain't new. I remember this other group
that I listened to back in high school. What's their name ... Crucial
Conflict, yeah. That whole Farmer John stylee just doesn't work
for me. Refunded the Nappy Roots CD in the end.
Been hunting for the Eugene McDaniels' Headless Horsemen
of The Apocalypse reissue for a while not but to no avail. So
I decided to get it off Amazon.com. Good God, these guys take 3
weeks to send the CD to me! Blaahdee hell ...
While we're at it, some stuff worth mentioning include David
Holmes' Come Get It I Got It mix CD, the Trouble Every
Day soundtrack with music by Tindersticks and Sunshine
Hit Me by The Bees. Oh yeah, and that DJ Spinbad
80's mix TOTALLY RAWKS!!!
